4IR in South Africa and some of its educational implications

This article focuses on the attempts to construct fourth industrial revolution (4IR) in South Africa, and some of its educational implications. Using Foucault's (1972) notion enunciative modalities, drawing empirically statements made by World Economic Forum, African government, universities, shows that it is people governments, economy, academia who are positioned as authorities delimitation define what 4IR is, bring into visibility. The then that, inevitability, STEM matter, instrumentalism, benevolence coordinates around which being articulated. In discussing these coordinates, implications such articulations explored. These include technicist way education viewed, lack adequate recognition inequalities system, problems with customised curricula assumes, erode possibilities developing deep learning.
